The alternating current or voltage reverses direction at regular intervals. The voltage is thus constantly positive and then negative.
Synonymous: Alternating voltage, alternating current (AC)
Adjustable latch
The latch of some SEWOSY electric strikes is adjustable with a fit up to 3 mm, to compensate the clearance between the latch bolt of the lock and the latch strike. The adjustable roller is an advantage designated by the name ROUREG filed by SEWOSY.

Counterplate
The counterplate is the necessary complement of the electromagnetic lock that will allow the locking and unlocking of the passage. The magnetic field generated by the electrical supply creates an adherence between the electromagnetic lock and its armature plate, keeping the access closed when the fail-safe system is used. This is the case of most SEWOSY electromagnetic locks, together with their counterplates.
Synonymous: Armature plate

The armature plate of CPREG aluminium housings can be adjusted in case of door sagging through a sliding system. Three generations of CPREG aluminium housings are currently marketed: the 1, 2 and 3. The eco-friendly CPREG 4 and 5 will be launched on the market in 2016.
D

Denotes the direction of the door opening: when the hinges are placed to the left of the leaf, then the door is opened DIN left. DIN stands for Deutsches Institut für Normung, German standardization body.
DIN Right
Denotes the direction of the door opening: when the hinges are placed to the right of the leaf, then the door is opened DIN right. DIN stands for Deutsches Institut für Normung, German standardization body.
Diode
Electronic component placed into the electric strike in order to let the current to flow in one direction only, thus protecting the access device of current feedback, when the electric strike shares its power with the electronic control organ.
Direct Voltage
Current ever flowing in the same direction, either always positive or always negative, unwhile the alternating current which constantly reverses direction in the time.
Synonymous: DC Power, DC
Double action
A double action door can be opened in the two directions, by pulling or pushing it.
Double swing door
A double swing door is made of two leaves. The door can be single action, pulling or pushing, or double action, meaning that it can be opened in the two directions.
E
Electric impulse
The unlocking of the electric strike is caused by power on or electric impulse, whereas in the absence of power, the strike remains locked.
Synonymous: fail-secure, power on
Electric strike
Metal housing fitted with an electromagnet device which releases remotely the latch bolt of a lock, by means of an electronic control organ.
Electromagnetic lock
In France, an electromagnetic lock is a control adaptor device: a DAC. Locked or unlocked by power supply, an electromagnetic lock can be mounted on the frame or on the upper door rail of the access, while its counterplate can be laid on the leaf.
F
Flush-mount
A flush-mount electric strike must be mortised in the reservation designed for this purpose. The other way to fit a strike is to surface-mount it on the door frame.
Synonymous: to mortise, mortice, flush mounted
H
Holding force
Ability of an electric strike or electromagnetic lock to resist the pressure, which is measured in Newton Deca (DAN).
Horizontal (lock)
A horizontal lock is wider than tall, the latch bolt being then in the lower part of the lock.
K
Keypad
Remote access control device functioning by dialing on the keypad.
L
Leaf
It is the moving part of the door, which is opened or closed.
Synonymous: swing, opening
Leaves
Plural of leaf. Refers to the moving parts of doors. A door can have two leaves.
LED
LED is the abbreviation for “light emitting diode“. Comprised in the status sensor of some SEWOSY electromagnetic locks, the LED indicates the status of unlocking by red color, and of locking by green color.
M
Memory
An electric strike with memory, also called “bi-stable” or “back and forth“, is unlocked by power on. It registers its unblocking as long as the door is not actuated, by a mechanical device maintaining the latch pressed on the pallet of the device. When the door is closed again, the pallet is released and the electric strike is locked again.
Mortise
Rectangular hollow part of the door frame in which the electric strike fits.
Synonymous: reservation, mortice
Mortise mounting
Action of installing the electric strike in the reservation.
Synonymous: flush mounting
Mortises
Rectangular hollow parts of door frames in which electric strikes are embedded.
N
Narrow
Refers to an electric strike whose dimensions are smaller than those of standard strikes, and which consequently suits to narrow profiles.
O
OPEM
Mechanical system of permanent opening. It comes to a lever which must be actuated in a direction to maintain the electric strike unlocked and then again in the other direction to allow re-locking of the access.
P
Palette
In cases where the SEWOSY electric strike comprises a signaling or status contact, the pallet enables to optimize the fit of contact, regardless of the type of latch. For the memory electric strikes, the pallet is blocked by the latch bolt as long as the door is not closed again.
Panic bar
Horizontal bar fitted on an emergency exit, enabling to leave a building from inside to outside by mechanical push, even if the door is locked.
Proximity reader
Device for remote access control running through Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). It allows to remotely identify the user of a badge, card or key chain integrating technology of Marin type, for example, or other. The proximity reader can also be provided with a keypad unlocking access by manual dialing.
Pulling (door)
A pulling door is open when pulled, thus inwards.
Pushing (door)
A pushing door is opened when pushed, thus outwards.
R
Reduced aperture offset
The latch of some SEWOSY electric strikes has the ability to rotate on itself, thus requiring less space. This often avoids the lateral cut of the door frame. The reduced aperture offset is a benefit designated by the ROUREG trademark of SEWOSY.
Remanence
The magnetic field of a standard electromagnetic lock can persist when power cut: this is the remanence phenomenon. This delays the door unlocking and requires more effort to push the door. The presence of an ejector in the counterplate allows canceling the remanence, so to neutralize the magnetic field. This anti-remanence system is integrated in all SEWOSY electromagnetic locks.
Report of information
The information on the open or closed door position, or its unlocked or locked status, is transferred remotely to a centralization organ or dashboard.
Reservation
Rectangular hollow part of the door frame in which the electric strike fits.
Synonymous: mortise, mortice
Reservations
Rectangular notches dug into the frame, in which electric strikes are embedded.
Reversibility
Refers to an electric strike that can be laid either on a door DIN right or DIN left.

Door position sensor built-in electric strikes to send an information about the opening or closure of the door to a management organ or dashboard.
Single action
The door is pulling or pushing, but not both together.
Stationary contact
It’s a mechanical memory‘s system that keeps the bolt pressed on the electric strike pallet as long as the door is not closed. Therefore, the electric strike memorizes its unlocking, which results in the stationary contact.
Surface mounted
An electric strike or an electromagnetic lock can be surface-mounted on a door when it has no reservation.
Synonymous: surface mount
Surface-mounted
Mounting is performed on the door frame when it has no reservation (wooden doors or gates for example) for an electric strike, or to facilitate the fitting of an electromagnetic lock.
