Stand Alone Access Control: Local and Controlled Management

Unlike a centralised system, stand alone access control does not rely on a management unit shared by several doors. Users are registered directly in the keypad or reader installed near the access point.

This architecture is particularly suitable for installations with a single door or a limited number of access points, such as a technical room, stockroom, workshop, office, secondary entrance, communal area, gate or garage door.

The operating principle is simple:

  • the user enters their code or presents their badge;
  • the device checks their authorisation;
  • the integrated relay controls the locking equipment;
  • the access point is released for the programmed period.

The keypad can therefore be connected to an electric strike, an electromagnetic handle or another locking device compatible with the installation.

Code or Badge: Which Identification Method Should You Choose?

A Code Keypad to Reduce the Management of Physical Credentials

A code keypad is suitable for installations where issuing badges is not necessary. Users simply memorise their identifier to access the protected area.

This solution is particularly suitable for access points used by a small team or for areas where access permissions rarely change.

The K1000 meets this requirement by providing identification exclusively by code, with a wired connection.

A Badge to Make Frequent Access Smoother

A proximity reader provides greater convenience when users enter the building frequently. They simply present their badge in front of the reader to be identified.

One badge = one memory slot = one user. Each badge is unique and assigned to an individual user.

The PASS range includes several models combining badge and keypad identification:

  • KR1000 and KRN1000: code and EM 125 kHz badge, with a wired connection;
  • KRB1000 and KRB1000-N: code and EM 125 kHz badge, with a terminal block connection;
  • KR1000-M: code and badge using Mifare 13.56 MHz technology.

This variety makes it easier to integrate the solution into either an existing installation or a new project.

Installation Designed with Installers in Mind

  • registering several badges in succession, for keypads equipped with proximity readers;
  • activating or deactivating the buzzer;
  • activating or deactivating the keypad backlighting;
  • single-use code function.

The choice between a wired connection and a terminal block connection also allows installers to select the solution best suited to their installation methods and the configuration of the project.

How to Choose Your PASS Stand Alone Keypad

Before selecting a model, several criteria should be considered.

Identification Method

A code reduces the need to manage physical credentials. A badge makes frequent access smoother and allows an individual identifier to be removed when the user is no longer authorised.

Reading Technology

EM 125 kHz models meet common proximity identification requirements. The Mifare 13.56 MHz model is suitable for projects already built around this technology.

Connection Type

The choice between pre-wired cables and a terminal block depends on the installation environment, cable routing and the installer’s preferences.

Architectural Environment

The keypad’s format, finish and colour should be consistent with the door frame and the overall appearance of the building. A black finish can, for example, provide a more harmonious integration with dark profiles.

Associated Locking Equipment

The keypad must be integrated into a complete solution comprising a locking device, a suitable power supply and, depending on the project, additional control or exit devices.

Single-Use Codes for Temporary Access

The single-use code function can create up to six temporary codes, which are automatically deleted after their first use.

It is particularly suitable for granting temporary access to a service provider, delivery driver, visitor or maintenance team without giving them a permanent code.

The authorisation disappears as soon as the person has passed through the access point, simplifying access management while providing greater control.

This function is available across the entire PASS range, with the exception of the KR1000-M.
